EGT Sensor Installation

Parent Previous Next

STEP 1

Locate a suitable location on the exhaust manifold to install the sensor. Usually the best location is close to the turbocharger where all cylinders are merged to enter the turbocharger exhaust housing.

STEP 2

Drill a 5 to 8mm hole on the selected location

STEP 3

Weld an M8 stainless steel nut over the hole. If installing on a cast exhaust manifold it can be tapped to create an M8 thread instead of welding a nut.

STEP 4

The nut might be distorted from the welding so it is recommended to tap the thread afterwards.

STEP 4

Mark the thermocouple so that it will protrude 10 - 20mm into the exhaust flow. Take into consideration the exhaust manifold wall thickness.

STEP 5

Screw in and tighten the compression fitting on to the nut.

STEP 6

Insert the thermocouple into the fitting up to the marked point

STEP 7

Tighten the fitting lock nut until the thermocouple does not slide. Once the ferrule is compressed you will not be able to move the thermocouple.

STEP 8

Secure the thermocouple cable so that it is not close to the exhaust system and route it into the car to connect with the PBC Pro.

SAFETY WARNING!

This procedure requires specialized tools and it is recommended that the drilling be done with the exhaust manifold removed from the engine or the turbocharger removed from the exhaust manifold to prevent metal fillings from damaging the turbocharger.
